The Brotherhood: Fighting Fires and Busting Chops

Rural firefighters spend a lot of time at incidents with neighboring fire and EMS departments. So much so, we tend to build a strong and unique bonds. It’s not always amicable, as this is a highly impactful and stressful vocation, but at the end of the day we all know we are in this together and that our lives could depend on each other’s actions at any moment. The “brotherhood” is definitely a big reason for being a firefighter.

At Dept 5, we run most medical calls with Dept 26 Sabinsville Ambulance. We also share more than a few members between our departments. When you spend that much time together dealing with the emotional rollercoaster that is emergency services, you grow to become like brothers and sisters. We have each other’s backs, and we also like to bust each other’s “chops” at times…actually most of the time! Two such members from Sabinsville Ambulance, Firefighter/EMT Kendra Miles and Firefighter/EMT Lacy Miles (who are firefighters with Chatham Township VFD as well) thought that it would be a great idea to help the 5 House by providing us with a new fundraising concept: selling 2022 wall calendars with pictures of our most physically-appealing members. We really think it turned out well. As far as fundraising, we just don’t think you can put a dollar amount on this kind of artwork.

Thank you Lacy and Kendra for the awesome gift. All Dept 5 personnel are busy thinking of some special way to repay your gesture. Stand-by!

Note: No animals were injured in the making of this calendar.
