Incident Report: T111723-5 Structure Fire in Westfield Borough, Single Family Home


11/17/23 @ 07:25, Crary Hose, Clymer Hose, Knoxville-Deerfield, Sabinsville Ambulance and Elkland with RIT, were dispatched to 230 Walnut St, Westfield Borough to the scene of a structure fire. Chief 5-30 Mack arrived first on scene and reported that the home was well-involved, all occupants had safely self-evacuated. Engine 5-3 with crew of 6 arrived on scene at the 8 minute mark and quickly brought a 2 1/2″ hand line into service, darkening the A side of the blaze. Cheif 5 Goltz assumed command and struck a second alarm at 07:39, bringing in mutual aid assistance from Harrison, Chatham, Galeton, and Middlebury Fire Departments. Tanker 5-5 provided water until a hydrant supply was acquired by Engine 6-2 and 16-2. Multiple tankers were called to scene but thankfully were not needed due to the great supply from our water system. Squad 5-18 responded to scene with manpower. Crary Hose Fire Police provided traffic control at the corner of Main and Walnut. Fire Coordinator 5 responded and assisted. Knoxville-Deerfield provided rehab.


Crews from all units joined the crew from 5-3 in the attack, putting 4 hand lines in operation from all sides to bring the fire under control by 09:15. Rescue 3-8 provided RIT and assisted in attack and overhaul. Additional assistance and apparatus were provided by Tri-Town (Ulysses) VFD, Westfield Brough Water Authority and Ackley Construction. Sabinsville Ambulance provided medical stand-by and monitoring of responders. Cover and stand-by assignments were served by Tioga, Wellsboro, and Troupsburg Fire Departments. Units worked on scene into the afternoon. Thank you to all who responded. Great job by all on scene.
