Dispatch 11/25/2021 @ 06:47 to 101 Stevenson Street, Westfield Borough for a reported structure fire. Dept 5 Crary Hose, Dept 16 Clymer Township, Dep5 3 Elkland RIT and Dept 26 Sabinsville Ambulance were dispatched to Stevenson Street for a reported structure fire, house trailer. Dept 20 Harrison Valley was also dispatched with Rescue 20-28 for Cascade and Fire Coordinator 4 responded as well. First on-scene was Dept 5 firefighter Travis Birdsall who lives close by. He arrived to an already well-developed fire and attempted to knock down the fire with an extinguisher. Chief 5-10 Shawn Ianson arrived on-scene to smoke showing from the eaves and heavy fire inside, establishing Westfield Command and doing his 360 size up. Engine 5-3 and Ladder 5-9 arrived shortly thereafter, with command being transferred to Chief 5 Bill Goltz at 06:55. Engine companies from Dept 10 (Galeton) and Dept 17 Chatham were dispatched to standby assignment at Dept 16 and 5 respectively.
Dept 5 and Dept 16 Crews quickly brought 2 handlines into service and began the interior attack, quickly darkening the fire. Primary and secondary searches were conducted with no occupants found. The fire was under control by 07:08 and out by 07: 20. Dept 3 RIT personnel assisted with overhaul and mop-up. Crary Hose Fire Police handled traffic control on Church Street. The Westfield Borough DPW Crew were dispatched to shut off water and did so by. The front trailer incurred heavy fire and water damage, with smoke damage throughout.
The occupants were not home at the time of the fire. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. Thank you to all who responded and helped out. Our hearts go out to the family who was displaced by this fire and to the owner of the property for their loss of possessions, but we are thankful on the Thanksgiving Day that all are safe.
