Last Monday Night (2/24/2025) 22 responders, including members of Crary Hose, Sabinsville Ambulance, and the CV Future First Responders participated in a medical continuing education course titled “Splinting Difficult Fractures,” delivered by Jeff Rosenheck, Tioga County EMA Training Coordinator at Station 5. Responders of all ages, certification levels, and tenure took part in a hands-on exploration of methods, strategies and devices used to address serious bone fractures and joint dislocations. Instructor Rosenheck began by walking through the various types of injuries and explained the different approaches, severity, and special concerns of each type of fracture.
After the brief lecture, students spent over 2 hours running through multiple scenarios; practicing splinting, wound management, and other aspects of patient care. The class split up into groups of 5-6, and members took turns playing the victim as the others worked together to attend to the injuries described in their scenarios. With supplies being limited, responders had to get creative and improvise to manage the many injuries that each patient presented with.
Thank you to Instructor Rosenheck, Lacy Miles, and the Crary Hose Training Committee for hosting and conducting this training. If you would like to attend our Monday Night drills, or would like to become a Firefighter or EMS Provider, just stop down any Monday night at 7:00pm and we would be happy to help you get started in your EMS career!
