The Crary Hose Training Center was unofficially opened for orientation for a group of 60 or so firefighters from around Tioga and Potter Counties last night. Participants were given a brief rundown of the guidelines and rules for using the training center and an overview of the registration and reservation workflow. Once sufficiently bored, we met up at the training facility where the large group was split up and tours were given of the facility. The building has multiple props that aide in training, including a forcible entry door, a hallway fire rollover prop, a pitched roof prop, a window prop, and a specially designed burn room that meet NFPA 1402 standards. After the tour, we lit it off. Firefighters donned their gear and rotated through an introductory live burn. Live burns provide a smoke-filled and highly-heated structure for practicing vital skills in a realistic, controlled and relatively safe environment.
We appreciate the excellent turnout. Thank you to the following departments for participating and supporting last night’s event: Wellsboro, Mansfield, Elkland, Knoxville-Deerfield, Tioga, Lawrenceville, Goodyear Hose (Galeton), Middlebury Twp, Germania, Harrison Twp, Genesee, Tri-Town (Ulysses), and Sabinsville Ambulance.
This is the culmination of years of work by our Building and Grounds Committee. Thank you to the following Dept 5 personnel for making this happen: Todd Streeter (Chair), Matthew Reed (Grant Writer), Andrew Adams, Brent Skelton, Marty Heyler, Chief Bill Goltz, Dave Earle, Gary Bisel, Kyle Mack. At the end of the day, most all Dept 5 members played a role in making this happen. Thank you all for not only making Crary Hose better every day, but for supporting the fire service in Tioga and Potter Counties and beyond with your skill, intelligence and dedication.
