2022 Spring Drill Nights

Spring 2022 has been all about catching up on the lost time. Since training over the last two years has been, let’s just say complicated, our training committee and chief officers have been hard at work setting up training opportunities. In addition to the multiple training courses we are offering at Dept 5 this spring, we have been hard at work on drill night too. Since the weather has cleared up, we have done multiple drafting and hose line drills with all of our front-line pumpers. Issues that have been found have been addressed and our newest members and juniors have had a chance to get some nozzle time as we prepare them for taking the Firefighter I modules.

At least one drill night a month is dedicated to starting up all of our small engines, making sure that they are in good working order and performing an preventive maintenance. This is also a great time to familiarize any new members with how these tools and equipment operate, how we maintain them, and any safety concerns that arise from their operation.

One of the goals of our department is to provide PROFESSIONAL-GRADE volunteer services. Not only will this be reflected in our operations on the fireground, but it will be reflected in every aspect of how we carry ourselves as representatives of our fire department. One area that has been identified as needing attention is our uniforms. Being a small rural department, priorities quickly shift when funding levels change. Uniforms have not been purchased or updated in some time as this just wasn’t a budgetary priority. The recent passing of one of our brothers focused our attention on the importance of our formal dress. We decided as a company to make our formal appearance a priority this year and we will be purchasing new uniforms. Last Monday night qualified members were fitted for uniforms. Additionally, two members were fitted for turnout gear as well. After the fitting, we did some primer and pump testing, giving the young guys some nozzle time. Thank you to Rodgers Uniforms and Susquehanna Fire Equipment for coming out and getting us fitted up.

If you are ever interested in being a part of our organization, stop out to the firehall any Monday night at 7:00pm. We’d be happy to show you around and get you an application!
